Me @ Meraki when I was happy + healthy.

Sharing a story is like the sun peaking through the clouds after months of rain, begging for its light to get closer to your heart.

It’s trying to lean in and learn from that light. Because like those months of rain, it has held the darkness for so long. It has stayed hidden behind the clouds.

The light touches the scars on your heart; it dances on the anger and trauma that is deep in your soul. It illuminates your hurt, your pain, and the heaviness you’ve been carrying around alone for what feels like an eternity.

Words can illuminate the darkest corners of your heart. They have the power to make your voice something you’re not afraid to hear when it echoes from the darkness where you have stood alone for so long. Your words are something you should not keep in the dark out of fear; your words are powerful and should be held up in the light for everyone to see. It is not you who is meant to carry the shame, embarrassment, fear, trauma and immense sadness that belong to someone else. You are not the one that should be keeping someone else’s secrets — they are not yours to keep. By doing so, you’re showing kindness to the people who destroyed your life by allowing them to get away with continuing to cause you a kind of pain and suffering akin to torture.

"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars."
